Something I needed to learn years ago was how to make homemade chicken taco seasoning from scratch.
At the time I was getting tired of all the chemicals I was finding in our everyday foods. I would feel conviction every time I would feed my family something I knew had chemicals in it, or genetically modified ingredients. It needed to change. I couldn’t take the guilt any longer! I decided to start making my own chicken taco seasoning myself, along with other homemade seasoning such as homemade ranch powder, regular taco seasoning, and Italian seasoning.
Some chemicals and additives commonly found in store bought chicken taco seasoning are:
Corn Maltodextrin – According to Nourish by WebMD “Maltodextrin is a type of carbohydrate, but it undergoes intense processing. It comes in the form of a white powder from rice, corn, wheat, or potato starch.”
Natural Flavor – According to Healthline “The original source of natural flavors must be plant or animal material. However, natural flavors can be highly processed and contain many chemical additives. In fact, in some cases natural flavors aren’t much different from artificial flavors in terms of chemical composition and health effects.”
Yeast Extract – Bassically, yeast extract is another way to sneak in MSG. According to healthline “The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires products that contain MSG to state this on the label. Foods that contain yeast extract don’t need to specify that they contain MSG. However, they can’t claim to contain “No MSG.”
Silicon Dioxide
Corn Syrup Solids
Also on the packaging close to the bottom it reads “PARTIALLY PRODUCED WITH GENETIC ENGENEERING”
